This is not a topic talked about enough because it is unbelievable how much what you put in your gut truly affects your overall health and how you feel. Lets think about last time you had something really greasy for a meal; how did you feel? I know when I was younger I would of said of I felt totally normal but now as an adult I feel more bloated and just kind of gross. If your honest with yourself your probably in the same boat. We also need to look at how much and the quality of sleep that we are getting along with how much and how well we manage our daily stress. I know I just keep adding things to the list of what we need to be mindful of to keep our guts healthy but I promise you once it becomes a habit then it'll be second nature and not even a thought!

Now you may be wondering why should I care if my gut is healthy especially if I'm not really feeling bad... Well if you have poor gut health than you have a lower immune system and if you have a lower immune system than you are more likely to catch every little but out there!

What can we do to improve out gut health you ask; first we'll look at the nutrients that help. Vitamin D (sunlight, omega 3, eggs), Calcium (broccoli, cabbage, kale), Fibre (oranges, peas, berries) Zinc (pumpkin seeds, hemp, chia seeds) Folate (avocado, broccoli, asparagus, citrus) Iron (dark leafy greens, dried fruits) and Magnesium (almonds, spinach, avocado, banana), Yes there are many more foods in each category but no one wants to read all of that! But if you look at these common examples than you'll see that at least a couple of them are already in your diet. It may be as simple as add some hemp/chia seeds to your yogurt or smoothie in the morning or for a snack or add an extra salad a week made with dark leafy greens which includes spinach some avocado, broccoli and cabbage. The more you do it I promise the easier it will be! Next you need to look at the quality of sleep and how many hours you get a night. 7-8 hours a night of good sleep is truly the best for an adult and yes I know that there are different situations that don't allow for that but it is the goal for optimal health!
